Hello Guys and Gals, In preparation for RE7 in January, I have decided to replay and play the entirety of the Resident Evil series. I will do so on these consoles. Resident Evil 0 - PS4 - 100% Platinum Resident Evil - PS4 - 100% Platinum Resident Evil 2 - NGC - Resident Evil 3 - NGC - Resident Evil Code Veronica X - NGC - Resident Evil 4 - PS4 Resident Evil 5 - PS4 Resident Evil 6 - PS4 Having already earned the Platinum trophies for RE0 and the REmake, I will be skipping them. Straight onto RE2 then. It's been at least 10 years since I've had the desire, stamina, and will to fire this game up, despite owning it across multiple platforms. I'm actually really excited to relive this story, as this is the game that got me into the series in the first place.

For Resident Evil 2, I will be playing at minimum Leon A and Claire B. Time permitting I will flip the scenarios and also play Claire A and Leon B. I'm playing on the GameCube, on Normal mode. Let's start! 09/13/2016 Day 1 Start -> Spade Key/First Chess PlugWe begin on the streets with a pistol full of ammo and the desire to survive. I'm picking up a lot of pistol ammo along the way to the police station, probably over 100 rounds in all, as well as the shotgun from Kendo. Yet by the time I'm in the police station I'm down to nearly nothing, and I'm in Danger. Crap. I get the key card to unlock the hall doors from our surprise party friend. This is actually a pretty clever way to force the player into a recap of the story-so-far, as you cannot make any progress until you get into this room. After using the key card to unlock the hall doors, I go into the door on the right to hit the item box for a First Aid Spra- wait, why isn't there a First Aid Spray... and pistol ammo? Is that only on Easy? This is going to be an interesting play through. Oh fuck. Proceed through the door and down the hall. Proceed to get licked. Load save. Go through the door on the left this time. Take down zombies, get a green herb. Go down the next hall, kill zombies, get red herb. Drugs are nice. Back to the Licker hall, but not for long. Pick up the first Red Jewel, then the second. In the STARS Room I get that beloved First Aid Spray, another shotgun, and do the horror movie trope with Claire where we spread apart and look for survivors. Not to mention that Unicorn plate. Back to the main hall with the Unicorn Plate, acquire Spade Key. Back to the STARS Room Hall, use Spade key. I like bookshelves and interior decorating, so acquiring the first of the Chess plugs is easy! Head out to the balcony, lower the fire ladder and continue around the hall for the next save room. That's where I leave off for tonight. Thoughts So Far: To be honest, I'm really starting to understand why some players hate the tank controls. They're ungainly and slightly annoying. The inability to quick turn has also gotten me into a few messes so far. I really, really wish that was included in the GameCube version. However, the fixed camera angles pose no challenge, and set me on edge; exactly how I like and remember it. This game is HARD though, even on Normal. I can already see that ammo management may be an issue, but I'm sure it's something that I'll adapt to. I am just not used to the number of zombies on screen at one time, especially coming off the HD versions of RE0 and the REmake.

9/14/2016 Day 2 2 Keys, Ada, Plugs, and Poor BenNo narrative this time. I'm still finding myself constantly out of ammo, but there's a lot more shotgun ammo to be found, which is a blessing, especially considering that Lickers are now all over the damn place. What I found most striking this session is how little I remember of the game. I beat this game so many times in the early 2000's that I literally couldn't stomach more than 20 minutes of it before I had to turn it off, and now I have little recollection of what I'm supposed to do! I guess my goal putting distance between the two of us worked. . After putting out the helicopter fire I was absolutely SURE that Mr. X was going to drop in for a cup of T-Virus once I headed down the fire escape, but he didn't. I'm looking forward to it though, he was my boss, way better than Nemesis or anything else in the series. The amount of zombies on the screen are still astounding me. I'm used to 3, maybe 4, on screen in RE0 and the REmake, but I'm getting at least 5-7 in RE2. I have to try and dodge a lot, but a lot of damage is being taken. Luckily there are enough herbs to go around. This game is also brutal in the fact that items which are not vital to progression are not highlighted on the screen. I'm specifically referring to ammo. At times the ammo is plain on the ground, but in others it's hidden away and hard to find. Using the Spade Key I got access to the 2nd story dorms, and inside a locker I found some shotgun shells, which I never would have done had motor memory not reminded me to keep clicking A on everything. Another time there was a Red Herb blending in against a red background of gas cans. I have all the Chess Plugs now, so next time I'll be taking on the sewers. I hope there's ammo before the 'gator, I only have 10 shotgun rounds. Edit: Oh! And Poor Ben! I found it absolutely hilarious how Berkin killed him, then inserted his Eye Arm (TM) into the screen slowly, and withdrew it equally slowly, without lateral movement. So unreal.

9/16/16 (post-dated) Day 3 An alligator and a little dose of the G-Virus
A quick run through the sewers of Raccoon City. Ada took a stroll and got herself in a bit of trouble with a tiresome reptile. I had to rescue her, though why she didn't just climb back up the ladder I don't know.
The alligator was surprisingly easy to kill. I always remember it being super hard and scary, but it was just a matter of blowing it up, barely fired 5 shots.
Now the meat of this days experience was seeing the William Birkin cutscenes. My god, they haven't aged a bit! They still had the same visceral, dreadful affect on me 10 years later. Certainly they have to be the best scenes in the entire series.
Onto the labs.
